WHITE POST BAKERY
A few weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, I visited the Wellington Food Festival in Somerset and was pretty blown away by a number of incredible businesses located in and around the area. I discovered that they are all linked in some way, with a strong sense of community amongst them. I found myself chatting to Katie from Tracebridge Fermenteria about a local Pizza night they host, as well as fermentation & sourdough workshops. A couple of days later, I was out on an explorative bike ride around the area, when at the brow of a hill just after a little village I saw a sign for "White Post Bakery". Nestled away in the countryside is this little gem. As it happens, Adam and Fleur learnt most of their bread baking from Katie (who I'd been chatting to at the market) and Gordon at Tracebridge Fermenteria (small world right!). Their small kitchen, with a wood fired bread oven, sees many different loaves in and out every single day. They bake for wholesale orders, customers that visit the bakery and also for the local Wiveliscombe Farmers Market. It was so interesting chatting to Fleur and Adam, asking them a multitude of bread based questions. It was also incrediably mesmerising watching each loaf being shaped and dusted with a handful of chalky flour. If you are around the area I would definitely pick up a loaf from White Post Bakery. I can personally vouch for the white sourdough as well as their rye loaf, which are both incredible and full of flavour. Right opposite the bakery is a lovely cafe and next door is a cute little plant nursery, everything you'll ever need for an afternoon out and about :)
